Install BCM 2007 on Windows 7

Posted on Updated on

When you install Bussiness Contact Manager (BCM) 2007 on Windows 7 a dialog box warns you about compatibility issues. The problem isn’t related to BCM itself, but to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. SQL Server 2005 Express is only supported on Windows 7 if SP3 of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is installed. Follow one of the following 2 procedures:

Procedure 1:
* install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition seperately
* install SP3 for SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
* install BCM 2007

Procedure 2:
* install BCM 2007, which also installs SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
* install SP3 for SQL Server 2005 Express Edition

If you had already installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with SP3, you won’t get the compatibility warning of course when you try to install BCM 2007.

Background information:
1) SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP3 can be downloaded from this page: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3181842a-4090-4431-acdd-9a1c832e65a6&displaylang=en.
2) SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is totally free and can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3181842a-4090-4431-acdd-9a1c832e65a6&displaylang=en.
3) BCM is a simple Customer Relationship Management (CRM) application, which embeds in Outlook and is meant for small businesses. Its big brother is Microsoft Dynamics CRM, but this one has a very different scope. BCM 2007 is included in Microsoft Office Small Business 2007, Microsoft Office Professional 2007 and Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007.
